Core order types
| Order | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Market | Fills immediately at the best available prices, within a slippage limit. | Speed matters more than the exact price. |
| Limit | Rests on the order book and fills only at your price or better. | You want a specific entry or exit price. |
| Stop market | Sends a market order once the mark price reaches your trigger. | Entering on a breakout or exiting fast. |
| Stop limit | Sends a limit order once the mark price reaches your trigger. | You want a trigger with price control. |
| Take profit / stop loss | Closes your position automatically at a target or a maximum loss. | Every leveraged trade. |
Advanced options
- Post-only: the order is cancelled instead of filling immediately, so it always adds liquidity and pays the maker fee.
- Immediate or cancel (IOC): fills what it can right away at your price and cancels the rest.
- Fill or kill (FOK): fills completely at your price right away, or not at all.
- Reduce-only: can only shrink an existing position, never open or flip one.
- Bracket: an entry order with take profit and stop loss attached in one step.
